word for the day: footer

October 22, 2009

Have been footering about with the appearance of Dancing Beastie and am at last relatively happy with it. Don’t like the font of the headings but am not technicallly-literate enough to change it.

By the by, ‘footer’ is a wonderful Scots word meaning something like ‘fiddle about’ or ‘loiter’ or ‘hang about uncertainly’: two slightly different emphases. So I could say to my son ‘stop footering and come and put your wellies on’ or ‘are you still footering about with that lego kit?’. (Both phrases would be equally useful in this household.)
